SALVATION ARMY.

OFFICERS ON HOLIDAY. Major and Mrs. Charles Sowton. who served for seven years with the Salvation Army in China, have gone to Wellington after a short holiday in Auckland. Mrs. Sowton is a daughter of Colonel Carmichael, a retired officer of the Salvation Army, who is living at Devonport. After their last leave, Major and Mrs. Sowton returned to China in 1030, and were stationed at Tsinan, the capital of the Shantung Province. While they were there the city was twice occupied by opposing armies. They later served at Peking, and were there in 1032 when the first clash occurred with the Japanese.
