TRUCK HIT TRAM.
TRAVELLED STRAIGHT ON. STRANGE CITY ACCIDENT. Unaware apparently that the back of his truck had collided with a tram at the intersection of Customs and Gore Streets at 2.45 p.m. yesterday, a lorry driver carried straight on into Gore Street, leaving behind him a trail of wreckage! No one was injured, but the motorman had a narrow escape. Many of the passengers were shaken by the experience. Like all similar accidents it happened in a flash. The truck was travelling from Queen Street along Customs Street and turned across the street into Gore Street. A Mount Albert-bound tram, on the inward journey to the city, came on to the intersection at the same time. The truck cut across its bows and there was a sudden crash. Passersby, looking round, saw a heavy truck carrying on into Gore Street, and in the centre of the intersection stood the tram, the left side of the front eibin smashed out and scattered all over the street. The jnotorman emerged unhurt. Apparently the back of the truck struck the tram, and the driver carried on unknowingly in spite of the loud crash. Some damape must have been done to the truck, though it was not 1 apparently shi'ted fru«u its track. i
