CONCERN AT NEW PLYMOUTH. ' l.i-.-., .'X; "■■: ~'.'.. , (By Tele*npt.~-Pre« Association.) - JST-EW PLYMOUTH, Friday. • The Minister of Railways, Hon. IX G. Sqllivan, who, accompanied by Mr. G. H. Mackley, general manager "ot railways, is visiting New Plymouth, had a number of requests placed before him to-day by deputations. Mr. Sullivan was asked to undertake as a national work the prevention of erosion by the sea, which is damaging private property and threatening the main railway line; to provide improved railway yiard fitcilitiee at New Plymouth; and to explain the arrangement between the Railway Department and the petrol companies, as a result of "Which, and because petrol from all companies but one is railed from Wellington, Taranaki ci>r,sumers are paying 2d a gallon more than those in Wellington. Mr. Sullivan, who is also Minister of Commerce, said the contract with the oil companies would expire this year, and it was open to the Taranaki people to IK-rsuade all the companies to import in bulk through New Plymouth. The. Minister was impressed with the danger of the sea erosion, as pointed out in the representations.
