Star Artist is on the upgrade, and the recent efforts of Lornacre indicate he is not uithout a chance among the sprinters on Boxing Day Trouvaille (Reillv) ran the first five furlongs of a round in 1.8 2-5. Prince of Orange (Goulsbro). who looks in solid condition, was not bustled at anv stage of a round in 2.12 2-5. He is to run in the Grafton Hurdles on the first da\ at Auckland. Serbia and Jean Quex were associated over half a mile in 53 l-ss, their first three furlongs taking 38 4-ss. Horses ?or Taranaki. A number of Taranaki candidates were worked, the reverse way on the No. 2 grass track. Philemup (Day) was too good lor the Little England mare in J. Muir s stable over five furlongs in 1.5%. 1 hilemup is looking well. Australian Star (Gobop). who is all the better for racing at Te Awamutu, finished a couple of lengths clear of Raceline (McLaughlin) at the end of half a mile in 51 l-ss. Australian Star did his work well In a similar effort Sen Acre (Gilmer i and Friskland (Glading) recorded 51 4-ss. N. R. McKenzie, who has made a good recovery from the injurv he received at the recent Waikato Trotting Clubs meeting. will be riding at Taranaki over Christmas, when one of his mounts will be Philemup. J. McLaughlin, who will also be doing the Taranaki circuit, has been engaged to ride Australian Star and Raceline. .T. Day'« services have been booked for English Night in his hurdles engagements on the last two days at Ellerslie.

GOLDEN SHEILA SPBBTg (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") TE AROHA, this day. Track work at Te Aroha this morning was carried out on the course proper. Aynho put in two rounds of useful work. Lagoon slipped over four furlongs in 52 3-ss. Black Musk was sent at half pace for five furlongs, finishing up by sprinting three furlongs in 395. Mazir went twice round at a useful pace. King Musk fKeesing) ran six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Golden Sheila (Lee). Miss Briefly (McGuire) and Wynardo (Keesing) jumped off at the five-furlongs post in close order and this was maintained throughout, Golden Sheila scoring by- a head from Miss Brierly. with Wynarno a neck away. They took 1.4 1-5. Star Vaal bowled along freely over a circuit, sprinting the last two furlongs in 26m.

COTTIN GH AM AMISS. IWJTTRY TO TENDON. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHI RCH, this <larThis morning's work at R iccari®n broufrht about an important change in H. Xurse's team for the Southern holiday meetings. Cottingham, after useful work on the plough, pulled up lame. One of hi* tendons is the seat of his injury, and lie will miss the holiday racing as a apell will be necessary. This is bad lack, as 'lie looked like playing a prominent part in Dhe big races at Dunedin, Wjmdham and Invercargill. Cottintrham was subsequently scratched at 10 a.m. for all engagemente at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting.

A.R.C. MEETING. SMOKE SCREEN SCRATCHED. Smoke Screen was scratched at 9.37 a.m. to-day for all engagement* at the Auckland Racing Clubs summer meeting.
