MISSION BAY.

PARKING CHARGE.

MOTORISTS' OBJECTIONS.

COMMITTEE TO RECONSIDER.

The parking charge made for motorists using Selwvn Park at Mission Bay is to remain in force, the matter having been discussed from various angles at a special meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening. Ihe parks committee recom mended that the charge be abolished. Mr. J. S. Stewart moved that the recommendation be referred back to the committee.

The deputv-Mavor, the Hon. B. Martin, said that it was a pity that so much encouragement had been given to the people objecting, and he did not consider the method had a fair trial.

Mr. L. <T. Coakiey said that it was useless sending the matter back to the committee. Parking on the roads would cost the council more, and tbev would want live or six traffic officers to control it.

Mr. E. P. Andrews said Mission Bav was the heritage of all the people and not onlv the motorists.

Mr. J. Purtell remarked that the whole thing was a storm in a teacup. Miss E. Melville said the reserves committee should make rules for all the popular beaches.

Ihe chairman of the reserves committee. Mr. F. Phelan. said if the legal and by-laws committee had done its duty and cleared the streets there would have been no complaints.

Mr. Anderton replied that the legaT and by-laws committee had no jiower to clear the streets, and the charge of 1/ was t'.xed without consideration of the by-law point of view.

The motion to refer the matter back o the committee was carried.
