NO INCREASE.
TAXI-CAB FARES. CONTROL QUESTION RAISED. TRANSPORT BOARD INTEREST. J lie Auckland City Council last evening decided not to allow taxi fares to be Increased by 6d a trip. I lie legal and by-laws committee recommended that the licensing of taxis should not be divorced from control, and that licensing a nd control should continue to be carried out bv the council. It, however, it was decided that the Auckland Transport Board should be the authority, then the Auckland Transport Board should also undertake the control of the taxi service in its entirety. In connection with a request for permission to increase taxi fares, it was decided that the question of controlling authority should first be dealt with, and that th? case to determine the legality or otherwise of the 6d charge of" telephoning for a taxi should be first decided.
