Approaching the mile post Bonny Asure was two lengths clear of Gamble and JCvicus, with Bingen Palm, Reporter, Tempest and Lucky Jack in hot pursuit. At this sta.ge Indianapolis was being proclaimed a possible winner, but fifty yards further on King's Warrior fell. Going to the mile and three-quarter post (lamble was in charge, with Lucky Jack, War Buoy, Evicus, Tempest and Do Soto following. Doing best in the run home, Lucky Jack easily accounted for Gamble, a.nd Tempest dashed up to secure the third prize, with De Soto fourth. Next to flni«*h were Bonny Azure, Pot Luck and War Buoy. The start, was delayed through Reporter colliding with Tempest's sulky and damaging the wheel. Although Lucky .Tack won only two rates in fourteen starts as a three-year-old, it was a year later that he really reached his peak, and last season he scored no less than eight victories, while he also gained place money on four occasions. It was only at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting (.'lull's meeting in August that the bay pacer qualified for the Cup, with happy results. Incidentally on that occasion lie registered 4.'21 3-5, time that he repeated in yesterday's success. Throughout the whole of his career the horse has been handled by K. B. Berry, who deserves every credit for the manner in which the son of Jack Potts has stood up to his racing. In the early part of his education he was apt to make a mistake at the barrier, but has now developed into a reliable beginner, and a brilliant stayer. Berry was first associated with gallopers, and was the rider of Sinapis when that horse won the New Zealand Cup. It was Berry's first success in the trotting cup, and it was a very popular one. The race proved a triumph for the American-bred stallion Jack Potts, who sired both the first and second horses. Jack Potts was a splendid performer, and was placed in both the New Zealand and Auckland Trotting Cups. He was a gaine racehorse, and several of his progeny inherit some of his fine staying qualities. Lucky Jack is the eighth five-year-old to annex the cup. and his total winnings are now £3580. He is owned by Mr. W. T. Lowe, who handled that fine trotter Trampfast, amongst other good performers. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. SUBSCRIBER (Opotiki).—(l) 12.15 p.m., October 28; (21 £4.
