WEATHER REPORTS.
FOR AIR SERVICES.
CONFERENCE THIS MONTH.
DELEGATES FROM OVERSEAS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Importance attaches to the meteorological conference to be held in Wellington at the end of the month by reason of tlie early inauguration of the Pacific and Tasman air services. The conference has the approval of the British, Australian and New Zealand Governments. The scope of the conference will be the consideration of meteorological services and problems in the south-west Pacific, chiefly as they affect the contemplated air services, and the invitations accepted include those to Great Britain, the United States, France, Australia, Canada, the Dutch Indies and the Pacific Islands administered by the High Commissioner for the Western Pacific. Imperial Airways and PanAmerican Airways have also been invited to send representatives to the conference. Delegates already known who will attend are: Captain F. Entwhistle (Great Britain), who is superintendent of meteorological services for Imperial Airways; Mr. W. S. Watt, Australian Commonwealth meteorologist; WingCommander Cobby, of the Australian Civil Aviation Board; Mr. E. W. Timcke, of the Australian Meteorological Bureau; Lieutenant Smallwood, representing the' Navy; Messrs. H. Gatty and Buxton, of Pan-American Airways. One of the principal problems to be discussed will be the co-ordination of all meteorological services in this part of the Pacific Ocean and their development to meet the requirements of the forthcoming services. A network of stations from which reports will come regularly, and which do not close down at the week-ends or on public holidays, are needed. Upper air observation from as many stations as possible is of urgent importance.
