"MRS. TWIN."

Queen Mary's Note to Mother Of Large Family. TROUBLE AND SELF-DENIAL. LONDON, November 8. Mrs. Pledger, 39, living at Manor Park, who reared 11 children, including 4* sets of twins, on £2 8/ a week received by her unemployed husband, was congratulated by Queen Mary on her "trouble and self-denial in bringing up such a large family." Mrs. Pledger's neighbours cali her "Mrs. Twin." She was married in 1917 and bore, in all, 16 children, five of whom, including a twin, died. A friend sent Queen Mary a photograph of the youngest of the twins, aged six months, accompanied by a letter of good wishes from the mother. Nee* of the children are workina. The mother, after paying rent and insurance, feeds and clothes 13 people on 25/ a week. She told an interviewer: "It isn't all fun. My husband and myself have often had to go short, but I am all for old-fashioned families."
