ADELAIDE, November 8. The cricket match between Xew Zealand and South Australia ended to-day in a win for the local side by 10 wickets. When stumps were drawn on Saturday the visitors had made 151 runs in the tirst innings and South Australia had lost eight wickets lor 209 iu their tiret veil- ' ture, giving them a lead of 148. The Australians to-day increased their total to 331, Xew Zealand made 180 in the second innings, and South Australia scored the necessary seven runs to win without the loss of a wicket. Although the Xew Zealanderg were defeated they will leave Adelaide knowing that they were responsible for the brightest features of the game. It would have been a drab contest but for the tourists' superb fielding and sparkling hitting. In Xew Zealand's second innings today Vivian was the star, with his crisp and vigorous shots. He scored 18 off the first over from the fast bowler Cotton and his 50 came up in 46 minutes. His total of 64 included 10 fours in 61 minutes. Vivian treated the fast and the slow bowlers alike in cavalier fashion. He was out to an excellent catch by Scaife (substitute) at silly tnid-on. Wallace's 37 runs were made by the same brilliant stroke-making as in the first innings. Donnelly batted better today for 24. His graceful leg shots were a feature of hie innings, which included four fours. Walker nnd Badcock made the s?ven rune which South Australia required to win. The T«»t bamitr Ward, whom the mannger of the New Zealand team. Mr. T. C. Lowry, rate* as better" than any slow bowler encountered on thp Engli«h tour, was a thorn in. the side of the New Zealfinders. He took seven wickets for 62. Ward hnd been sppn in another role in South Australia's first innings, when he mnde 41. Cowie and Vivian were the best Vow Zealand bowlere. although they cannnt ho rated up to first-class Australian standard. Scores:— New Zealand. First innings 151 Second Innings. MACARTNEY OPTIMISTIC.
PROSPECTS FOR LATER MATCHES. SYDNEY, November 8. Commenting on the Adelaide match in the "Sydney Morning Herald," C. G. Macartney (the former Australian Test player) says it seems that if the Xew Zealand cricketers can quickly settk' down to wicket conditions they will have improved vaetly by the time they reach Sydney. Their bowling at Adelaide seems to have had more accuracy than venom. Xew Zealand had an uphill in the second inninpre against South Australia, but its work indicates distinct possibilities for the later matches in Australia.
