PARNELL SCHOOL.
ADDITIONAL CLASS ROOMS.
OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY
The official opening of the recently completed additions to the infant department at the Parnell School will be performed by Mr. T. V. Wells, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, on Wednesday, November 17.
The chairman of the school committee. Mr. A. G. Harris, will preside, and other speakers will be Mr. F. W. Schramm, M.P., Mr. F. C. Pace, president of the School Committee Association, and Mr. •I. W. McGechie, headmaster. After the ceremony both schools will be open for inspection, when exhibitions of the work of the children will be on view in each classroom.
The consistent increase in attendance at the school has been remarkable since the transfer from the old school in Parnell Rise to the present site in St. Stephen's Avenue in 1933. At that time the roll number was 364, while at present it is 558. Last year a new infant department, consisting of two rooms and teachers' room, was built, and as a result of the steady increase in attendances two more rooms have been recently added. The completed building of four classrooms is of the open-air type. Each room opens out on to a wide verandah through large folding doors, and as the building faces the north, the maximum amount of sunshine and fresh air arc available. The present position indicates that further accommodation will be necessary next year. The Parnell School was opened in 1878, and the school committee has called a meeting of ex-pupils, ex-teachers and all interested to set up committees to make suitable arrangements for the diamond jubilee early next year.
