LANDING GANTRY.
PAN-AMERICAN AIRWAYS.
HARBOUR BOARD WORK
Arrangements were being made to construct the necessary landing gantry in the vicinity of the area leased by Pan-American Airways, according to the monthly report of the superintendentengineer to the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. D. Holderness, which was presented at a ' meeting of the board to-day. The quay in the vicinity had been paved.
Reporting on the boat harbour being built at St. Mary's Bay, the superintendent said that 8231 tons of stone and 82,000 cubic yards of spoil had been deposited to date. The work was making good progress. A new monthly record was created by the electric wharf cranes, which worked 0480 hours. Work had proceeded on the jetty west of Prince'e wharf, 67 bearing piles being concreted and 11 new piles driven. Contracts had been let for the supply of a 2J-ton crane and material for construction work. Increased demand at the Western wharf had called for the installation of a new ships' telephone, and this work had been carried out. Owing to the difficulty in effecting repairs to the adjustable, hinged extension to the vehicular ferry landing bridges without seriously interfering with traffic, stated the report, it had been necessary to construct a spare interchangeable unit, and this was under construction.
