BRITISH SHIPPING. Governments Consider FourParty Pact. EMPIRE PLAN UNDER WAT. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in the House of Representatives, announced that the New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canadian and Australian Governments are considering the terms of an agreement for assistance to British shipping in the Pacific.
He said that all outstanding features of a four-party agreement, which provided for construction of two new liners, had been accepted by the Commonwealth. It was hoped that notice of acceptance by the other Governments would be received within a few days.
A bill to authorise the Commonwealth to enter into such agreement would be introduced during the present session. It is anticipated that the agreement will be signed at an early date.
