I TAXI MAN ROBBED. WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN. CHINESE ASSAULTED. SYDNEY, August 20. Menaced by two bandits, one with a pistol, a taxi-driver was robbed of his money and cab at Gladesville. The bandits took the cab and decamped. Thujrs were active in "other suburbs. A woman was brutally assaulted and robbed and a Chinese was attacked by two men posinjr as police. The victim of the taxi hold-up. Allan Dickson, of Birrell Street. Waverley, told the police that he was engaged by two men in Bank Street, Pyrmont. and told to drive to Tennyson Road. (Jladesville. When he reached Tennyson Road one of the men produced an automatic pistol. "Hand over your money or we'll shoot you," the man said. Dickson refused, and the bandits, at point of the pistol, ordered him to take them to Fig Tree, where one held his arms, while the other weut through his pockets. They took £2 »>/. Knocked to Ground. As soon as they released him. Dickson sprang from his seat, ran down the road, and. escaping in the darkness, informed the police. j Police combed the district in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the bandits. The cab was found abandoned early this morning in Cliff Street. Balmain. Accosted by two men. one of whom said he was a sergeant, a Chinese named Sun See was taken to a lane off Botany Road, Alexandria. The men searched See's pockets, but failed to find any money. , Knraged, one of the men struck See on the jaw. knocking him to the ground. J hey then ran away. c Barbara Haley, 'of Oreengate Road, Killara. was attacked by a man near the entrance to Wollstonecraft railway station. The man knocked her to the ground, snatched her handbag containing £4. and ran off. ] A youth who tried to snatch a hand- ' bag from Bonnie Roberts, near her home! in 1 ercy Street, Gladesville, ran off when she screamed.
