NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. DOMINION RANKINGS. 32,812 PLAYERS — AUCKLAND 6843. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association states that the number of associations affiliated remains at 19, this total being the same as that of last year. These associations have an aggregate membership of 32.512 affiliated players, Auckland being the largest with 6843. The ranking list for Dominion tennis players for the 1936-37 season is:— Men.—A. C. Stedman 1, C. E. Malfroy 2, E. D. Andrews 3, D. C. Coombe 4, C. Angas 5, N. P. N. Bedford and A. D. Brown (equal) 6, N. G. Stmt 8, H. A. Barnett 9, J. T. May son 10. Ladies. —Miss D. Nicholls 1, Miss N. Beverley 2, Miss T. Poole 3, Miss M. Beverley 4, Miss N. Bishop 5, Miss 1.. Poole 6, Miss I,'. Cooke 7, Miss J. Douthett 8, Miss M. Howe 9, Miss A. J. Wilson 10. D. G. France, Miss M. Macfarlane and Miss D. Miller are stated to have had insufficient performances. The report states that the policy was continued of subsidising expenses of provincial associations in providing coaching for, promising junior players, and an improvement in the junior standard was already apparent. The association entered a challenge for the Davis Cup, the team comprising E. D. Andrews, D. C. Coombe, C. E. Malfroy and A. C. Stedman. D.-C. Coombe was sent from New Zealand for the purpose of completing the team. The team was successful in the first match, defeating China by three rubbers to two, but lost to South Africa by four rubbers to One. The statement of accounts shows an excess of income over expenditure for the year of £62 1/&. Until the financial results of the Davis Cup matches are available, however, it will not be possible to give final figures for th'e overseas representative account. The management committee records with regret the death during the season of the president of the association, Mr. P. R. Harman (Canterbury), who had been an Indefatigable worker for tennis lor a long period of years.
MOUNT EDEN CLUB.
A sound financial position was revealed n.v the report presented at the annual meeting of the Mount Eden Lawn Tennis Club.
