DEATH AT SEA.
WINTER CRUISE PASSENGER. BURIAL AT PAPEETE. As the steamer Maunganui was passing into Papeete Bay througji the Passe de Papeete, Tahiti, at 6.30 a.m. on Monday, August 9, in the course of her Pacific Islands winter cruise, one of the passengers, Mr. William D. Tucker, aged 52, a retired farmer from Rotorua, died. Maunganui returned to Auckland this /morning. -\ On August 5, the second day out from Auckland, the ship's doctor, Dr. C. S. Laurence, was sent for by Mr. Tucker, who was removed to the ship's hospital, where he remained until the time of his death. The burial took place 24 hours later, in conformity with the regulations of French Oceania, at the French cemetery on the outskirts of the town. The funeral service was simple but impressive, and-was attended by life captain and departmental officer!; of the Maunganui. ; 'V''. Dr. Laurence said this morning that death was due' to heart disease. The late»Mr. Tucker was born in Devonshire, England.
