Diamond Wedding.

MESSAGE FROM THE KING. j SIR JAMES AND LADY ALLEN. _ I Numerous messages of goodwill from friends in various parts of the Dominion were received by Sir James and Lady Allen, of Dunedin, who celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding yesterday. There was also a message from the King at Balmoral which read: "The King and Queen send you hearty congratulations and good wishes on your diamond wedding." Another message was received from Lord Galway: "I wish to convey to you and Lady Allen my warmest congratulations- and good wishes on the occasion of the celebration by you to-day of the sixtieth anniversary of vour wedding." Appropriate, replies to Tx>th these telegrams have been forwarded. Sir James and Lady Allen were married in the Church of Evercreech, iir Somersetshire, on August 23, 1877. Sir James was born in South Australia, and came as a baby to Dunedin, where he received his early education at a private school. He went to England for further education in 1860, and entered Clifton College in 1869, remaining there until proceeding to Cambridge University in 1874. He took the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the year he was married, and returned to Dunedin with his bride the following year. Lady Allen before her. marriage was Miss Richards, a member of a well-known Somersetshire family.
