NOTES IN PASSING.

It irt reported from Berlin that the Nazi regime is planning to appoint State commissioners to control Roman Catholic monasteries in Germany. The congregation of St. David's Presbyterian Church have in view an extensive programme of renovations and alterations calculated to cost about £2700. The "War Cry" has a note in a recent issuo reminding its "soldiers" that they must have nothing to do with gambling. The "Army" considers gambling a form of evil. Wise sayings: Religion is the only root of stability in the world. Want of fS&h in God is the prevailing insanity of our time. The universe is based upon God's rule and upon spiritual realities, and it is not going to work in any other way. The Rev. Lawrence Redfern, one of the ,ablest and most representative Unitarian ministers at Home, who has l>een commissioned to visit overseas Unitarian churches, is at present in Australia. He is cxpected to arrive in Auckland towards the end of this month. Several new Boys' Brigade companies are in process of formation in Auckland and elsewhere in the Auckland district. A permanent camp site at Long Bay has been acquired for the boys by the generosity of Mr. F. T. Vaiighan, and a camp has been erected largely through the enthusiasm and generous help of the president, Mr. G. T. Patcrson. Dr. Jaiues Black, of Edinburgh, says that ft publishing friend informed him a short time ap-o that, apart from a few novels and biographies, the "bestsellers" in the last few years were all religious books. Dr. Black remarks that this came «s a surprise to him. It will no doubt come as a surprise to a good many others. A missionary exhibition under the auspices of the Auckland Presbytery is to be held in St. David's Church building oil three days at the end of this month. The evening programmes will include missionary plays, still and mov-1 ing pictures, and talks by missionaries! on furlough. It is interesting to learn iii connection with its mission to the) Maoris that the Presbyterian Church has 15 stations, a girls' college, and aj boys' farm. '
