FROM AMERICA.

THE BRIDGENS' HORSES IN F- 1 SMITH'S STABLECLOVERDALE AND LOGANDALE The success that the Takanini trainer, F. J. Smith, enjoyed with the Americanbred Nell Volo has encouraged this mentor to import a couple more horses from the States, and the two pacers, Cloverdale and Logandale, are already getting through light tasks. Neither has raced and in all probability it will not be before Christmas that they are asked to face the starter. They will not race in his colours, having been purchased by patrons of the stable. Cloverdale is a splendid type of colt. He is very low set, with plenty of barrel and shows a lot of bone. He is by Abbedale (2.1%), from Fanny Direct (2.7%), who is by Braden Direct (2.1%), a halfbrother to Morley Volo, by Peter Volo. Abbedale is the most prominent sire in America to-day and got The Abbe (2.4), the sire of Bert Abbe (1.59%). At the stud Abbedale has got numerous standard performers, and also Chief Abbedale, who took a record of 2.0 and also paced a mile on a half-mile track in 2.2. Even if he does not prove a financial racing success Cloverdale should be an acquisition to the trotting blood in the Dominion and everyone wishes his enterprising owners, Messrs. E. G. and F. A. Bridgens, the best of luck in going further afield to secure the best. Logandale is a gelding and is a much more rangy-looking pacer than Cloverdale. He has plenty of length and stands over a good bit of ground, while his conformation is hard to fault. Logandale was got by Abbedale from Rosalyn (2.101, by Jim Logan, but his pedigree, in full, has not yet arrived. Jim Logan is a fullbrother to that great stud success Logan Pointer, whose blood traces through the lines of some of the best pacers in the Dominion at present. Logan Pointer was by Star Pointer from KrHe Logan, a daughter of Durfee and Ripple. The lastnamed mare goes back to the famous Hambletonian line. Logandale is now owned by Mr. C. H. Trigg.
