SUSTENANCE.
It was really refreshing to read that both the Rev. T. Halliday and the Rev. , Monsignor Holbrook agreed that there ; was not tlie amount of misuse or abuse ] of sustenance moneys as. some would! have us believe. It was, too, reassuring, j coming as it did from gentlemen whose va«t amount of work among the indiorent is acknowledged. They are really Fn a position to know. It is unfortunate that the "little help triven by way of sustenance is not done with gracioueness and with that glorious feeling that goes with helping the "under dog." a feeling cherished by those who can appreciate the thrill ot doin"- something for the "other fellow Once"upon a time New Zealand did good deeds for the love of doing it. but of recent years, ' very unfortunately, it seems that we can do nothing charitable without an attendant unseemly fuss TWICE BLESSED.
