EMBARGO ON MERINOS
Hint of N.Z. Sales Nullifying Ban in Australia. DOMINION EXPORTS. (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The opinion was expressed at the last annual conference of the Graziers' Association of New South Wales, that the effectiveness of the embargo on the export of Merino sheep was endangered by the sale of sheep to New Zealand. A resident of Wellington, New Zealand, designating himself "A.8.," in a letter to the "Sydney Morning Herald," issues a warning to Australian sheepmen that the purpose of the embargo is jeopardised by the export of Merinos from yew Zealand to countries to which the Australian embargo applies. He suggests that it may be advisable for the Commonwealth Government to prohibit export of sheep to New Zealand, and adds that New Zealand is sending Merinos to Japan and any country she can sell them to. "There has been no considerable buying of Merinos by New Zealand sheepfarmeve from Australia," was the reply of the editor of the "New Zealand Farmer Weekly' , when the cable was referred to him. He added that Merinoe were suitable only for a few parts of the country. One consignment of Merinoe had left the Dominion recently for Japan, but these were flock eheep, and not stud. In hie opinion there was neither sufficient import or export of this line of eheep to justify the attitude taken up by the Wellington resident.
