RAISE THE "DINKS. "
Reading the letters in your paper re the Highland Regiment for Auckland it struck me that a great chance has been lost by the authorities. Highland regiments have glorious history behind them, traditions to uphold, and their retired members live up to them and discuss them whenever they meet. Xew Zealand formed a famous Rifle Brigade which made tradition and a name for the Xew Zealand soldier. We all heard of and knew of the "Dink*." Why hang up their colours? Why talk of them in the past sense? .Lecturing round Auckland on traditions and badges of the British Army I have again and again mentioned this. Arouse yourselves, Xew Zealanders; get the "Dinks" back on the Army list with their smart rifle movements and green uniforms and bugle band. Then we will see about starting a Highland regiment from Scottish-born Xew Zealauder?, and all of ne old soldiers of Highland regiments will step in and give you a helping hand. The members of the "Dinks" are numerous and influential enough in Auckland alone to do this. We Imperial soldiers would like to see this famous brigade take down its colours and get young Xew Zealand to rally round them and start a brigade from the glorious foundations of the past to a finure that would see it affiliated with the King's Royal Rifle Corps or the Prince Consort's Own. the Rifle Brigade. You have your own liattle honours, your own traditions. Why borrow them from affiliated regiments? Stand on yulir own ground. Xew Zealand. You have made vour name. Keep it. Raise the "Dinks.' , ' CUIDICH'X RIGH.
