DUNEDIN, this day.
Peak prices for the Dominion season were reached during the auctioning of the first two catalogues, representing a third of the offering, at the third wool sale of 30,700 bales to-day. There was a sensational advance in crossbreds, prices being fully 3d per lb higher. Fine wools, while not showing the same advance, were keenly competed for by Japan and the Continent, being fully Id higher. Pieces and bellies shared in the general improvement, fine wools being up Id and coarse lines of crossbreds at least 2d. The wool opened up well, being consequently well suited to the American and Japanese trade. There was not a vacant seat on the buying platform, every country competing." The sale was very animated, only three lots being passed in the first 90 minutes.
The offering of superfine halfbreds suitable for local mills was small, causing keen rivalry. The top price for the first two catalogues, 25|d, was for super halfbred.
