MABMTBD WOMAX FINED.
On each of three charges of thefts from city stores, Hilda Bryant, aged 45 ' was fined £1 by Mr. W: R. McKean, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. % Sub-Inspector Fox said that a floor supervisor of a department saw the, accused pick up a head of wool and place it under her coat. The wool at 6/2, and later was found '**" irt'vhpr possession four pairs of half hose, , valued at 10/. TiPpls J/ J. Sullivan, for the accused, said it was a most. distressing case. Accused had four children, the youngest a gir) of 12 years. Some years ago she; had suffered with brain fever, and had since had occasional' lapses. Counsel handed in a medical certificate. . Mr. McKean said the medical certificate showed accused was passing through a period . when some, mental disability might be expected. , Had it not been for' ~ tlic certificate he would have imposed a* ~ larger penalty than a fine of: £1 on each:
