FRUIT PLENTIFUL RIPE BANANAS DEAR. VEGETABLES IN DEMAND. Although there was a large quantity of -fruit offering to-day at the City Markets, some lines were scarce and dear, notably ripe bananas, Te Kauwhata grapes, quinces, lemons and oranges. The demand for most fruit was good, on account of the proximity of Easter, but apples continued to be slow of sale. Pears and tomatoes were in good demand, and hothouse grapes realised fair values. Passionfruit also sold Well. A small shipment of Queensland pineapples, which arrived yesterday by the Niagara, was in mixed condition, and the greater part \ was sold at low prices. Quotations: — Apples: Cox's Orange, 4/ to 8/ per case, Delicious 2/ to 4/, Ballarat 4/ to 5/6, Jonathan 4/ to 6/6, Munro 3/ to 4/. Pears: L.B.J. 10/ to 13/ ifer case, Packhams 5/ to 6/, Keiffers 3/ to 4/6. Tomatoes: Outdoor, ex. choice 6/ to 7/6 per case, others 3/ to 5/6. Oranges: Californian 45/» to 55/ per case, Japanese 32/0. Grapefruit: Californian 45/ per case. Lemons: choice cured 12/ to 15/ per case, others 6/ to 10/. Bananas: ripe 14/ to 37/ per case. Pines: Queensland, bad order. 5/ to 21/ per case. Grapes: Te Kauwhata 14/ to 15/6 per case: hothouse, "Hamburg 9d to 1/0% per lb, Coleman lid to 1/7. Peaches: Golden Queen 6/6 to 8/6 per case. Strawberries: Captain Cook 1/ to 1/2 per chip. Passionfruit: 5/ to 8/ per rase. Figs: 3/ to 5/ per case. Persimmons: 4/ to 5/6 per case. Quinces: 10/ per case. Mushrooms: 1/6 to 2/6 per lb. Vegetables. A large quantity of vegetables was marketed to-day, the demand being, on the whole, fairly good. Cabbage and ■ cauliflower were plentiful, selling at recent rates, but potatoes were in oversupply. Onions were in good supply, but were mostly of poor quality. Celery, pumpkins, green peas and beans were all available in ample quantities. - Brussels sprouts are now commencing ?to arjfive -on the market. v Current rates are:— Beet, 4d to 8d per dozen; celery, cooking 6d to 1/ per bundle, dessert 1/6 to 3/; carrots, 6d to 1/" per dozen; cauliflowers, 3/ to 7/ per sack; cabbages, 2/ to 7/ per sack, on benches 1/ to 2/6 per dozen; cucumbers. 1/ to 3/ per dozen; French beans, 1/6 to 3/ per bag; stringless beans, 3/ to 7/ per bag; green peas, 2/6 to 7/6 per bag; kumaras, 3/6 to 6/ per bag: leeks. 1/ to 1/9 per dozen; lettuce. 2/6 to 6'6 per case; marrows, 9d to 1/6 per dozen; melons, citron 4/ to 6/ per sack, rock 4d to 1/6; onions. 2/ to 4/ ner bag: potatoes. Ohakune 3/ to 4/3 per bag. Pukeko-he 2/6 to 3/3 per bag; pumpkins. Red Warren 3/ to 7/6 per sack, good crown 5/ to 8/ per cwt; parsnips. 6d to 10d ner dozen: radish, 6d per dozen: rhubarb. 1/ -to 3/ per dozen: spinach. 6d to 1/ per dozen';' spring onions. 4d to' 10d per bundle: swedes. 2/ to 4/6 per bag: turnins. 6d per dozen; Brussels sprouts, Id to 3%d per 11). Butter and Eggs. Egg prieeß show a rise of Id on last week's rates: — Hen: A grade 2/4% d per dozeu, B grade 1/10%. C grade 1/3%. Duck: A grade 2'4% per dozen, Bgrade 2/1%, C grade 1/6%. Farmers' butter: lid to 1/2 per lb.
