SYDNEY, this day.
Mestor Avon, who won the Autumn Cup, one mile and a half, at Warwick Farm on Saturday, has been penalised 101b and will carry 7.3 in the Sydney Cup. In a little over a week this horse has risen from obscurity to being favourite for the Sydney Cup. He is a six-year-old whose career was interrupted when he broke down in a hind leg a couple of years ago. On recovering he competed at country meetings, and had not won a race worth more than £35 until he burst into the limelight by winning the Autumn Handicap, one mile and a half, at Rosehill last Saturday week.
