RIPE BANANAS SCARCE. HEAVIER ONION SUPPLY. APPLES AND PEARS DULL. The auctions to-day were again dull at the City Markets, for apples and pears. (lood quality tomatoes and hothouse grapes were in fair demand. I here was a very weak demand for cooking apples and Only the best dessert were wanted. The inquiry for peaches was much weaker, while oranges were in fair demand.
Ripe bananas were very scarce and the ; few cases available realised high prices. I The Matua is ,expected on Monday with the usual large shipment of bananas from Fiji. Samoa and Tonga. Vegetables. r lhe market was well supplied to-day' with all classes of vegetable* in season, beans and marrows being a glut. Cauliflowers and kilin a ras were a little lower in price than was the case last week, while cabbage and green peas were firmer.
