M. GRINIAROD'S DOUBLE JVIN

TAKES MRS. McIVOR CUP

FINE RIDING BY COLIN CARTER

Last evening's meeting of the Otahuhu Amateur Athletic Club at Sturges l'ark attracted a good attendance of spectators and competitors. The principal event was the ladies' 100 yards for the Mrs. Jas. Mclvor Cup, open to members of the Otahuhu and l'apatoetoe Clubs. Marjorie Grindrod, of the Otahuhu Club, was the winner, covering the distance in the great time of lis, l-5s inside the record. This runner might have gained some little assistance from a cross wind, but her effort was a highly spectacular one and 1 stamps her as easily one of the best lady sprinters in Auckland. ,

Miss Grindrod has improved greatly on her starting, and, getting out of the holes smartly, cut the opposition down in great style and won comfortably, also taking the 75 yards event, again from scratch. On Saturday she meets Miss Ida Campbell at Hamilton in the provincial championship, and a keen struggle is anticipated. Colin Carter's riding wag an outstanding feature of the meeting, as lie was victorious in the one mile and a half and the two miles and a half in fine style. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS

WAGER.—At th« 1928 Olympic Games, Williams, of Canada, won the 100 metres and 200 metres races, while Carlton, of Australia, was eliminated in the 100 metres and ras fourth in the 200 metres. The only time Williams was second in the 100 metres was in a heat won by an American.
