NAMAKIA RUNS THIRD. THE MENTONE MEETING. MELBOURNE, February 24. Faletaff enhanced his Newmarket Handicap prospect* by defeating Hostile and Namakia in tht Newmarket Trial Handicap at Mentone to-day. It was Namakia'e first start in Melbourne. She was impressive, and should win soon. Pooley Bridge was responsible for a good Australian Cup trial by finishing brilliantly to win the Berkshire Mile.
The disappointing Conandale is to be turned out for an extended spell. The three-year-old Shakespeare has developed lameness in a hind fetlock. The trouble ie not regarded ae serious. PRINCE POMBAL WINS. SYDNEY, February 24. At the Kensington races to-day Prince Pombal returned to the winning list, taking the second division of the Flying Handicap.
