NEW JOAN CRAWFORD FILM. Five distinguished actors of peculiarly contrasting characteristic*, lour of them as lovers, were required to impersonate the men who figured in the life of glamorous Peggy O"Neal in "Tiie (ioigeoue Hiuwy," which opens a season to-morrow at the St. James Theatre. Joan Crawlord, in the title role of tins historical romance, portray* the lovely daughter of a Washington tavernkecper dining the administration of President Andrew Jackson. President Jackson is impersonated by Lionel Barrymore, veteran star of the screen. Robert Taylor, Holly wood's most spectacular young star of the current era, plays the part of "Bow" Tiinberlake, a tlashing seaman who made swift love to Peggy O'Neal ami swept her off her feet. Franchot Tone portrays .John Eaton, suave Secretary ot Wai, who married the little spitfire and was sent away as Ambassador t<. Spam when Washington Societx revolted agji nst her. Melvyn Dntiylas p<ll trays ih<. tiag;c Senator Randolph from Virg.nia. who loved the icirl more deeply than all the others, yet lost her when he remained true to his own ideals. James Stewart appears as the Capitol Hili newspaperman, in love with Peggy O'Neal himself, but remaining a constant friend long after he knew the iutility of hie emotion.
