ELEVENTH ROUND.

CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP. H. R. ABBOTT STILL LEADING. With two rounds to be played the New Zealand chess championship will be decidcd on Wednesday evening. The leader is still H. R. Abbott (Christchurch), whose aggregate was BV4 points at the adjournment yesterday. He ia followed by S. Hmdin (Christihurch), F. K. Kelling (Wellington) and H. McNab (Auckland), each with 7 points. Play in the tenth round resulted:— H. R. Abbott, Christchurch, v. S. Hindin, Christchurch (q.p.): After an even game a draw was agreed to at move 37. J. A. Hunter, Christchurch, v. I. Burry, Auckland (English): Hunter won. a pawn in the middle game and at the adjournment had rook and three pawns against rook and two pawns. In the play-off subsequently Burry resigned at move 50. C. *B. Newick, Auckland, v. F. K. Kelling, Wellington (centre counter): Kelling initiated a strong attack and Newick lost a piece. Afterwards he lost his queen through an oversight and resigned at move 24. H. McNabb, Auckland, v. J. A. ErskmS, Invercargill (q.p.): McNabb won a pawn ia the middle game and later a piece and his opponent resigned at move 32. D. Lynch, Hastings, v. G. P. Anderson, Wellington (q.p.): A hard, even game resulted in a draw at move 30. D. I. Jones, Auckland, v. K. Beyer, Wellington (q.g.d., orthodox): After having slightly the better of the position Jones, as the result of numerous exchanges, was left with similar material to Beyer, and a draw was agreed upon at move 43. E. H. Severne, Wellington, v.' R. O. Scott, Wanganui (Sicilian): An even game was adjourned with equal material. Eleventh round resulted:— Beyer v. Severne (Reti): A hard game was drawn at move 30. Efskine v. Lynch (Reti): This was a brief but complicated fight, in which Erskine, in a series of exchanges, overlooked a check, gave up a piece, and resigned at move 24. Scott v. Abbott (q.p., Colle): Scott sacrificed a piece for a strong and dangerous attack, which nearly succeeded, but over-reaching himself he resigned on the 23rd move. Burry v. Newick (q.p.): Newick was evidently fatigued and threw away a piece. He resigned at move 19. Hindin v. Hunter (French): Hunter lost the exchange at the eighteenth move and resigned at move 46. Jones v. Anderson (q.p.): This was a long game, in which a fine exhibition was given. Jones appeared to have an advantage. but played for a win when a draw might have resulted. Anderson played a skilful end game and forced Jones to resign at move 60. Kelling v. McNabb (Sicilian): Kelling lost the exchange in the middle game and a knight in the end game. At move 49 he resigned. Following are results of adjourned games:—Fifth round: Hunter drew with Severne. Seventh round: Kelling beat Severne, McNabb beat Hunter. THE AGGREGATES.
