WEST COASTERS.
SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION. At the Druids' Hall, North Street, Newton, on New Year's Eve, the West Coasters (South Island) Association held a plain and fancy dress carnival, when a large number of members, friends anil visitors from the coast spent a very enjoyable evening. The Hon. P. C. Webb, Ministej of Mines, the guest of the evening, was welcomed by the president, Mr. T. Smith, and received a great ovation. The winners of the Monte Carlo were Miss Simpson and Mr. Macklin. The fancy dress prize winners were Mr. Megson (a miner), Miss Montgomery (Dutch girl). Among tiiose present were Mesdames Jndd, Donation, Smith, Shaw, Maddison, Power, Robinson, D. Sutherland, Fraser, Von Zylinski, K. J.
