FIREWOOD DEPOT GUTTED.
OUTBREAK AT ROTORTJA.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Thursday,
An outbreak of fire shortly before j 4 o'clock this morning gutted a coal and firewood depot, owned by Mr. A. G.| Cottrell, in the railway station yard,l and for a time endangered t'lie neigh-1 bouring plantation of trees, the Wai-, kato Dairy Company's depot and the railway sheds. The fire was first noticed by two men who were proceeding to their homes and who gave the alarm to the brigade. The ( fire was then blazing fiercely. The brigade quickly ran out a length of hose for a distance of about 200 varus across the plantation and confined the outbreak to tli? coal depot building itself. How- J ever, it was impossible for the brigade to save the building, and -when the flames wore suppressed only the shell remained. The building and contents were not insured. '
