THREE KILLED.

HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS. TWENTY INJURED IN CITY. UNIDENTIFIED MAN'S DEATH. Holiday motoring accidents were responsible for the death of three people on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day throughout New Zealand, while over twenty cases of people injured 011 the road, some seriously, were treated by the St. John Ambulance in Auckland, up to this morning. An unidentified man. probably u Christmas visitor to Auckland, died in tliQ Auckland Hospital at 3.30 yesterday morning, after having been admitted to the hospital suffering from injuries when struck by a taxi cab 111 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, about 9 o'clock on Christmas Eve. He suffered severe head injuries and died about six hours after his admission. At 12.30 o'clock to-day, the man was not identified. A post mortem photograph of the man was taken this morning. Two young men 011 a motor cycle were injured yesterday morning when their cycle struck a motor car 011 the corner of Epsom and Manukau Roads about 10 a.m. Mr. George Richard McLaren, aged 21, of (i(i2, Manukau Road, the driver, suffered shock and lacerations to the knee and wrist, while tha pillion rider, Mr. Maurice Henry Bryant, aged 18, of 2S, Torrance Street, Royal Oak, suffered injuries to the spine. The cycle crashed into the back of a car coming out of Epsom Avenue, and both men were admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance in a serious condition. Mr. Bryant's condition this morning was stiil regarded as serious, while Mr. McLaren was reported to be progressing favourably. All old-age pensioner, Mr. Thomas Andrews, aged 78, of Glen Eden, was struck by a motor car at the corner ol East and Symonds Street 011 Thursday about 3 p.m. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital and his condition early this afternoon was still fanly serious. Press Association messages reporting accidents throughout the Dominion are: —• Death in Ambulance.—A married man, Mr. Leonard Norman Lower, labourer, of Ohawe Beach, near Hawera, died in an ambulance 011 the way to the Hawera Hospital 011 Thursday night, following a motor accident. Mr. Lowers car capsized 011 the main road near Hawera. He was thrown through a hedge and against a barbed wire fence, receiving a fractured skull and other se\eie

injuries. Four Persons Injured.—Four people were injured in a head-on collision between two motor cars on the FoxtonShannon road between the Shannon railway crossing and the Manawatu River bridge 011 Thursday, reports the "Star's" Palincrston North correspondent. The victims are: Mr. Stanley Silk, aged 30, of Foxton, head injuries, cuts to the hands and shock; Mrs. Silk, injuries to both arms and a fructuicd right leg; Mr. Ihaia Muliu, aged 03, of Shannon, facial injuries and shock; Mr. Thomas Ropohaina, aged 37, of Shannon, fractured left leg, fractured jaw, facial injuries and fractured right arm. The lu-month-old child of Mr. and Mrs. S'lk had a remarkable escape and was uninjured. The victims were admitted to the Palnieriston North Hospital. The condition of Mr. Ropohama is serious.

Head-on Impacts. — At Palmerston North there were two head-on collisions in the city yesterday and as a result two of the people involved are in hospital, reports the "Star's" correspondent. A victim of a collision between a motor car and a motor cycle 011 which she was a pillion passenger in Esplanade' Drive was Miss Hazel Cain, of Palmerston North. She had one leg fractured. The second collision occurred on the Awaliuri road between two motor cars. A passenger in one of the cars, Mr. William Luoni, of Huntervillc, had facial and throat injuries.

Car and Truck Collide. —Six persons were injured in a collision at Paliautanui at 7 o'clock yesterday morning between a motor car, driven by Mr. L. K. Palmer, motor trimmer, of Petono. and a petrol wagon driven by Mr. P. Pallesen, of The Esplanade, Petone. Three of the injured people were taken to hospital, including Mr. Pallesen, who suffered slight head injuries.

Pedestrian Killed. —At Wellington, injuries which proved fatal were received by a married man, Mr. John Richmond, aged 4!), of 135, Grafton Road, Wellington, when he was knocked down by a motor car, driven by Mr. R. S. Meadows, of Lower Iliitt, as he was crossing Cambridge Terrace at 1.30 o'clock "Vesterda v morning. The injured man was taken to hospital suffering from a fractured skull, other head injuries and concussion, and a fractured left leg, and died at 12.15 p.m. It was raining at the time of the accident.

Car's Plunge Over Bank—One person was seriously injured and three others had a fortunate escape when a motor car in which they were travelling ran road and rolled 200 yards down a bank 011 the Governor's Bay-Lyttelton road near Rapaki early ' vesterdav morning. The driver, Mr. K. G. Broad, of 57, Andover Street, Merivale, was admitted to hospital with severe head injuries. The three other occupants of the car were Miss Davis, of Invercargill, Miss Williamson, and Mr. R. Peoples! Tlicy escaped with slight injuries and shock. The car ran off the road at a bend and rolled about 200 yards down a steep bank before coming to rest about 50 yard 1 !" from the beach. .Heavv rain Mas falling at the time of the accident.

Girl Killed in Otago Mishap.—A child, Anne Mary McMullan, was killed in a motor accident on the roq4 between Wedderburn and Naseby shortly before seven o'clock 011 Thursday evening. The girl's father and mother, together with another child who was travelling in the car, were admitted to the Ranftirly Hospital with various injuries.

Vehicle Leaves Road.—As a result of their motor car running over a bank at Mossburn, two Public Works Department employees, Mr. Frank McGruer, aged 30, of Pomona. Road, Invercargill, and Mr. Alfred 0-Toole, aged 32, of Victoria Avenue, Invercargill, were admitted to the Southland Hospital. Mr. .McGruer has a fractured spine, while Mr. O'Toole is suffering from a fractured collarbone.

Party's Narrow Escape. — Narrow escapes from death were experienced by Mr. and Mrs. C. Foskett, of Te Puke, and their iive-year-old daughter Betty, when the motor car in which they were driving toward the Waikato left the road on a high cutting on the Ivaimai Range, about 20 miles from Tauranga, yesterday, and commcnced the plunge several "hundred feet into the ravine

below, reports the "Star's" Tauranga correspondent. After falling about 20ft, however, tlio ear was caught in some trees, ancl the occupants were rescued by Dr. F. D. Pinfold, of Hamilton, who arrived a few minutes later. The girl suffered fractures of the left thigh and ankle and the mother head injuries. Mr. Foskett escaped with slight head injuries. XOll e of the victims is in a serious condition. Collision On Hill.—As the result of a smash on the Tatapouri Hill, about six miles from Gisborne, in the early, hours of Christinas morning, the driver of one car, Mr. Charles Bright, and two of his passengers, Misses Beryl and Ellen Calvert, were admitted to the Cook Hospital suffering from bruises and shock.
