As is usual after a holiday break, the Auckland Stock Exchange started the day's business quietly with only four sales recorded at the lirst call. Bidding, however, was fairly steady, and last week's values were generally maintained. The strength of the wool market was reflected in a sale of Dalgetys 7/6 up, at £10 12/6, after which there were still buyers in at ten guineas, but sellers had withdrawn. Bank of New Zealands were, dull, with sellers at £2 0/9 and no buyers. There was no improvement in Government stock, but bidding was steady at late rates. Amongst Australian securities Broken Hills were firmer, with a market between £4 l/'3 and ±'4 2/, and Electrolytic Zincs had better buyers at £2 7/ for the ordinaries and £2 9/ for the preferences. Mount Lyells were in good demand, with quotations from £1 17/ to £1 17/6. Australians Firm. Improved offers for a number of Australian stocks were the feature of the noon call. Broken Hills, after sales at £4 1/6 and £4 1/9. had buyers at the lower figure and sellers a shilling above. Electrolytic Zinc were also firmer, selling 6d higher, at £2 7/9, with a later market from £2 7/3 to £2 8/3. Colonial Sugars and Tooth's Breweries also looked stronger. In banking, a buyer for Xew Zealands came in at £1 19/, and offers for Australians improved to £12 5/. Sales of several local body debentures reflected recent easing in this type of security.
