MANUKAU COUNTY.
The Manukau • County Council met this morning, the chairman, Mr. F. M. Waters, presiding. Mangere Bridge.—The engineer reported that inspections of the Mangere Bridge showed the necessity for extensive repairs, temporary measures being no longer applicable. It was recommended that reconcreting of tension sides of beams and similar treatment of other parts be carried out, and a committee was therefore set up to make an immediate investigation. The council hopes to effect repairs this summer.
Guaranteed Price Information. —The council decided to comply with a request from the New Zealand Farmers' Union for information likely to be of use in determining next year's guaranteed price for dairy produce.
Loan Polls Question.—Advice was received from the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, that permission for an extension of power to raise loans of not more than £1000 without the necessity of taking polls of ratepayers, could not be granted to councils which have converted their loans on a riding basis.
