JAPANESE BUYING. SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telcgrapn.—l'recs Ar.s-ociation.J CHRTSTCHURCH, Monday. Japanese buying completely dominated the first Cliristohurch wool sale of the season, held to-day. Buyers with orders on behalf of Japan lifted the greater part of an attractive catalogue at prices 65 to 75 per cent above those at the December sale last year. The prices were-the best since 1929.
Practically . the whole offering of 28,010 bales was sold. It is estimated that the average value will be about £25 a bale, compared with £14 10/11 at the corresponding sale last year. The market was completely at the mercy of Japanese operators, who appeared to have r.o limits at all. The Range of Prices. The range of juices was as follows, rates at the sale in December, 1935, also being given before those realised today:— Merino.—Extra super, —, to 24} d; super, 15id to 17d, 21.] d to 23d; medium, 12Jd to 15d, 18Jd to 21d; inferior, lOcl to 12d, 15kl to 18d. Medium Half bred.—Super, 12£ d to 14.] d, IGJd to 19d; average, 10Jd to I2Jd, 14jd to 10Jd;; inferior, 9d to 10Jd, 12d to 14Ad.
