PERSONAL.

Major A. J. Edney returned from Wellington by train yesterday. Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, who arrived in Auckland yesterday, left again for the South by train this afternoon. Mr. D. Black, chief postmaster at Palmerston North, will retire on superannuation shortly, after 40 years' service in the Post "and Telegraph Department. Mr. G. G. Littlejohn, manager of the Christchurch branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, is joining the inspectors' ranks, at the general managers' office, Wellington. Mr. F. Beaumont Smith, managing director of the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation (New Zealand), Limited, left Auckland yesterday afternoon by motor car for liotorua. Mr. V. E. J. Wells, formerly a member of the staff at St. Peter's School, Cambridge, has left for South Africa, where he will take up an appointment at Bishop's School, Kondebosch, near Capetown. Mr. G. C. Codlin, formerly of Auckland, and now assistant general manager of the "Sydney Morning Herald," has been appointed general manager of the "Melbourne Argus." He will visit Auckland on holiday next month. Sir Thomas Wilford, whose retirement from commercial interests in London was recently announced, is reported to have purchased a home at Heretaunga. Sir Thomas finds the English winters very trying, and has decided to return to live in New Zealand.
