ROYAL'S HARBOUR RACE. RAWENE'S NARROW WIN. Tho Royal New Zealand Yaclit Squadron lipid a general handicap race on Saturday over a harbour course for their keel yachts, the first prize being the jßiitler bequest. The race started at 2.15 p.in. from the King's wharf, the course being round Bas'tion mark, round Saltworks beacon, inside ilangitoto beacon, back round Bastion, and back round Saltworks, back to Bastion and up -to the King's wharf. The- entries and handicaps were : Ariki scr. Tawera Cm 30s. Kawene Sin 30s, Prize Little Jim 13n\ Victory 14m, Waiomo 10m 30s, Aitair 22m 30s, Windward 24m, Maliaki 2Gin 30s, Tawliiri 2Sm, lona 2!) in (ditl not start), Ivotuku 33m, Janet 30m, and Anita 42m. On the heat out Ariki gradually increased her lead, with Kawene second and Tawera, Prize and Victory close up. All set their largest spinnakers for the run in with the tide to the Bastion, and the times of rounding this mark the second, tl-me were: Ariki 3h 37m 255. Rawene 3h 40m 3s, Tawera 3h 42m. Ariki gradually increased her lead from Rawene. which was holding a good second place, and the finish was: Ariki 4li Ofvin 255. DOUBLE VICTORY FOR MANU. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron held t,wo races on Saturday for their M class of 18ft patiki type yacht, to decide the boat to he sent to Lyttelton in February to compete with an. M ; class boat representing tlie Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club. Both races were sailed over a triangular course, starting and finishing off the King's wharf, the marks being Resolution, Sandspit, back to Resolution, back to Sandspit, finishing off the wharf. In the second race the double loop across the Sandspit from Resolution was omitted. A good start at 2.20 p.m. saw Manila, Mawhiti, Manene and Maim away together, with Maroro 45s late. All kept close together on the lead to .Resolution, and again on the beat across to, Sandspit, where the times were: Manu 3h 15m 15s, Manaia o 1 H' m I,','*' ?' an( ' ne 3h ICm 50s, Mawhiti 3h 18m 40s, Maroro 3h 20m.
