WANGANUI TRACK.

MANAWATU CANDIDATES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Saturday. The conditions were perfect for training operations this morning, and No. 1 track was hard and fast, but the only horses galloped were those in W. Rayner's charge. Spiral (F. Latham.) trotted a circuit and then went a mile by himself. He was allowed to run along well within himself over the first half, which occupied 53 2-ss, but the pace was then clapped on and lie cut out the last half in 50 l-ss, the full journey thus occupying 1.43 3-5. It was a satisfactory performance, as the son of Limond is not a good track horse. Spiral is to run in the Manawabti Cup and lie should be a very lit horse on the day, though he would be all the better for another race. Scarf Dance (E. Peek) and Icing (P. Morrison) were sprinted three furlongs, which they left behind in 375, with Icing doing it well. This was a good gallop, considering that both these fillies are not at their best yet, owing to the long spell necessitated by the colds from which they both suffered in the spring. They are coming along nicely, however, and even if they do not get into the money at Awapuni they should run good races. Entail (E. Peck), who is also to race at Awapuni, slipped over five furlongs by himself in his usual style in 1.2 3-5- The son of Posterity looks in great heart, and if he does all right when taken from home he will be very hard to beat in his engagements. For many years the Wanganui Jockey Club had been without a holiday date for any of its meetings, but last year it was granted the King's Birthday as one of its winter meeting dates. This proved very, successful and held out great hopes for the future, but King Edward's abdication has once again left the club without a holiday date. Many doubt whether it will be wise to hold the winter meeting in June without the holiday for one of its days, and it may be that the meeting will be held in May again, if permission can be obtained.
