MASSED BANDS.

RECITAL AT DOMAIN.

APPRECIATIVE CROWD PRESENT

The final massed bands recital of the queen carnival conducted by the Auckland Pipe and Brass Bands' carnival committee was held before a large crowd in the Domain yesterday afternoon. "The competitive spirit induced by the carnival has undoubtedly improved the standard of band playing in Auckland," said Mr. Dudley Wrathall, one of the joint organisers. "It has done much to increase the support of the public. The carnival has been a financial success." The programme opened with two selections by the Waterside Workers' Silver Band, under the conductorship of Air. F. Hildreth. The Auckland Girls' Brass Band, under Mr. Webber, played "Clarendon Selection," and selections were then played by the Onehunga Citizens' Band, conducted by Mr. A. Leatherby, the Auckland and District Highland Pipe Band, under Pipe-Major L. Amor, the combined bands of the Ist Battalion Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own) and the Auckland East Coast Mounted Rifles, and the Takapuna Citizens' Band. Warm appreciation of a quick-step demonstration by the Balmoral Boys' Band under Drum-Major B. Little, was shown by the large crowd, and enthusiastic applause greeted the massed marching display by the seven bands. On Wednesday night in the Town Hall the coronation of the successful candidate will take place.
