AUCKLAND SPANISH CLUB.

KEEN INTEREST DISPLAYED.

A meeting of the reorganised Auckland Spanish Club was held last evening at the office of the Consulate for Panama. Senor Quiros y Quiros, the Consul for Panama, assisted by Mr. W. Brown, presided over a satisfactory and enthusiastic _ attendance of former members and intending new members. A welcome was given to foundation and early members of the first Auckland Spanish Club. The president explained that the membership would consist of necessity largely of British people and therefore special attention would be given to the formation of classes by Mr. Brown and Mr. A. S. Hill. He pointed out that the national language of South America, Central America and even much of California was Spanish, and he enlarged upon the commercial and social advantages of knowing at least one other language in addition to one's own. Other speakers emphasised the necessity for a study of literature and music at club meetings and it was decided to arrange for a regular supply of up-to-date educational magazines from South America. It was resolved also to concentrate on classes for the present and to advertise the commencement of the fortnightly club meetings in the late summer.
