GUARANTEED PRICE POLICY. SOUTHERX FARMERS' VIEW. (By Telegrapli.—Press Association.) DUXEDIN, Thursday. "I believe that the principles underlying the Government's guaranteed price policy are eound and advantageous to the primary producers, and, so far as dairy produce is concerned, I see no reason why the Government marketing scheme should not prove beneficial to the farmers and the Dominion generally," stated Mr. John Smith, president of the South Island Dairy Association, at the annual meeting this morning. Success, he added, would depend largely on the extent to which the return to the farmer would compensate him for tiie increased costs involved in the Government's improved wage standard. Probably the Government thought an adjustment of farm mortgages would more than offset the increased costs. The prospects for the industry seemed brighter than for years, and, whether or not the farmers were responsible for the election of the present Government, they all hoped the change would coincide with the beginning of an era of prosperity.
