SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

An enjoyable evening was spent at the Radiant Health Club, Unity Hall, Queen Street, when Mr. E. S. Souster gave an excellent address on the subject of "Cancer and Health." He showed that wrong diet and thinking helped to produce this disease, and quoted the statements of eminent physicians to prove his words. #

An most enjoyable card party and social evening, convened by the Akarana Maori Association, was held in the rooms of the National Council of Women, Victoria Street West, last night. Five hundred and bridge were .played by the guests. The rooms were prettily decorated with sprays of native leaves. It is proposed to hold a series of these card evenings to bring together those interested in Maori affairs and incidentally to benefit the social welfare fund of the Maori Association, which receives many calls for help during these winter months when seasonal work is most scarce and sickness more prevalent iu the Maori community.
