REOPENING SHORTLY.
MAMAKU STATE SAWMILL TIMBER FOR RAILWAYS. (By Telegrnpli.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Thursday. Preparations for the opening of the Maniaku State sawmill are now almost completed, and it is understood that the mill will commence full-time operations next Monday morning. 'During the .past few weeks a number of men have been busy overhauling:, the machinery and the haulage engines which have been idle for about three years, and this work should be completed this week. It is understood that the majority of men previously engaged at the mill will again be employed. There will bo approximately 20 men engaged in cutting operations in the bush, while the staff of the mill itself will he in the vicinity of 30. These men will bo employed on a full-time basis, supplying timber requirements for the railway workshops in the North Island, and although the estimated output has not yet been announced, it is possible that it will exceed the output before the mill was closed as one of the economy measures of the late Government.
