OBITUARY.

MR. JOHN TILBY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ; TAURANGA, this day. The death has occurred of Mr. John Tilby, of "Arawa," Otumoetai, Tauranga, after an illness, of several months Born in Nelson 76 years ago, the son of Dr. James Tilby, Mr. Tilby took up farming at Pukekohe and then at Tauranga. He was a member of the Buckland school committee and the Pukekohe East Road Board at one time, and took a keen interest in yachting at Tauranga. With his two sons, Charles y and Ray, he raced the yachts Foam and p Wizard in local regattas and- he was } for many years a member of the regatta q committee and the.. Yacht and Power 2 Boat Club. He was also a member of - the Agricultural and Pastoral Associa--5 tion and of the Tauranga branch of the Farmers' Union. He leaves his widow, 6 two sons and a daughter. 0 ~ MR. WILLIAM C. SMITH. lp 1 ? The death has occurred of Mr. William Clidrles Smith, of Palmerstou le North, at the age of 04 years. As a teacher whose services extended to many parts of the Dominion Mr. Smith was widely known. He was born in Gloucester and educated at Nelson College and the Auckland University College. He began teaching at Nelson, and later served in the Wanganui, Auckland, Canterbury and Marlborough districts. In 1911 Mr. Smith was transferred to Niue t Island, where he took charge of primary y and technical education until 1915. Then i- he became a pioneer teacher at Raroy tonga, where he gave long and valued d service to many of the outlying islands, n Retiring to Tauranga, he served on local e bodies until his health broke down. He d lived at Napier until the earthquake, if when he removed to Palmerston North, d Mr. Smith leaves his wife and three daughters.
