Competition was keen, with values improving by 1/ per 1001b. Cows and heifers were penned in large numbers, and sold at late quotations. Extra choice ox sold to 23/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 24/ to 27/; secondary and plain, 21/ to 23/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 23/ to 25/; secondary, 8/ to 22/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £13 to £14 15/; heavy, £11 10/ to £12 15/; lighter, £10 to £11 7/6; light, £8 to £9 15/; email and unfinished, £5 10/ to £7 15/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £7 5/ to £8 2/6; heavy, £6 to £7; lighter, £4 12/6 to £5 17/6; light, £3 10/ to £4 10/; others. £2 to £3 5/. Tile-bulk of our offering comprised good quality medium to heavy vealers. The demand was keen, and all classes sold readily, calves showing a good improvement on last week's rate. Beef. —We penned fat cattle to the number of 331 head, as against 279 head last week, comprising 50 steers and 281 cows and heifers. The quality of ox beef yarded was first-class, bidding was much brisker than last week, and values improved slightly on recent sales. Cows and heifers were penned in large'numbers, and competition was good. Extra choice 0* sold to 28/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 24/ to 36/; secondary and plain, 21/ to 23/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 24/ to 26/; secondary, 13/ to 20/.
