CORONATION DAY.

CROWNING THE KING.

Thursday, May 27, Next Year, The Chosen Date. FOLLOWING AGE-OLD CUSTOM. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 24. The "Daily Mail," announcing that the Coronation of King Edward VIII. will take place on Thursday, May 27, 1937, says the King next Thursday will sign an Order-in-Couneil setting in motion the Coronation arrangements, after which scarlet-and-gold-robed Kings of Arms, with Heralds and Pursuivants, will on Friday proclaim the Coronation date at Temple Bar, Charing Cross, the Royal Exchange and St. James' Palace. The Privy Council will immediately begin the establishment of the Court of Claims under the presidency of the Lord Chancellor, Viscount Hailsliam. The Court exists only t:> decide which English citizens will be privileged to attend the King at his Coronation, including who will carry eacli of his gloves and spurs, who will be Hereditary Poulterer, Bearer of the Third Sword, and also whether the Mayors of the Cinque Ports will carry the canopy over the King. All claimants upheld will have excellent positions at the Coronation, but many claims will probably be rejected like the woman who claimed to be "chief herbstrewer for King George's Coronation." The King's Crown has already been removed from the Tower to enable it to be made to fit His Majesty. The Duke of York, heir presumptive, will make a State visit to Wales in 1937 representing the King at the formal equivalent Coronation. He will also travel to foreign courts to formally announce the accession.
