BRITISH CROWN'S POSITION. VALUE OF HUMAN LIBERTY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Presiding at the annual meeting of the Wellington Boys' Institute, the Minister of Public Works", the Hon. R. Semple, said that one of the fundamental objectives of the institute was character building. No one could attempt to measure in pounds, shillings and pence the value of such an institution to the budding manhood of the country. Those in touch with developments taking place in the world to-day, said the Minister, sometimes shuddered with fear to think what might happen, and the task of young boys was to try tp steer their country clear of those calamities and tragedies that might destroy every institution worth while. In his opinion, the British Crown represented the sheet anchor of civilisation and safety zone of the world. The British Empire was tlie only country that held fast to human liberty, and to-day was a beacon to the rest of the world. It was the referee holding the scales of justice. The' task of holding fast to those marvellous traditions and principles that were eo dear, he concluded, would rest in a few short years upon the shoulders of the boys of to-day.
