Y.W.C.A.
SUCCESSFUL BANQUET. The Y.W.C.A. Assembly Hall presented a gay scene on Thursday evening, when 340 mothers and daughters participated in a "Mother and Daughter banquet under the auspices of the Women's Council of the Y.W.C.A. The tables were most colourful with their wealth of autumn flowers and orange programmes to match. The programme was interspersed with community singing and some group items, the community songs being specially composed for the Y.W.C.A. and set to popular tunes. Tlie toast list included the following: "The King," proposed by Mrs. Morris, the president of the Women's Council; "Our Mothers," proposed by Miss. Belle Reid, with a response by Mrs. Betlnnfe McConnell; "Our Girls," proposed by Mrs. C. Hynes, responded to by Miss Avei'il Solomon; "The Y.W.C.A.," proposed by Mrs. E. Edwards, responded to by Mrs, A. D. Campbell, the president of the Y.W.C.A., and seconded by Lady Wilson, a former president of the Y.W.C.A.; "The Future," Miss Bennet. In her remarks Lady Wilson congratulated the association on its successful gathering, reminded those present that the standard of any city was as high as the standard of its women and girls. Miss Bennet, the general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., spoke of the purpose of the association, which was an endeavour to join young women together throughout the world in finding the best way of life. The Y.W.C.A., she said, was the greatest women's international Christian movement in the world and was worthy of the greatest respect and effort wherever it existed.
The pianists for the occasion were Mesdames Stephenson and Jury.
